Broadcasters and other content providers know that using a content delivery network (CDN) is critical to optimising the end-user experience. But there are many circumstances in which relying on a single CDN may not be enough to assure the performance levels you need. For example:
- A new content launch may attract more subscribers than forecast. Although that’s good news in one way, it could also mean many of them don’t enjoy the best experience of your content.
- Extending content delivery to a new region without the support of a locally strong CDN could lead to performance issues that negatively affect the user experience in that geography.
- Being unable to scale bandwidth easily when major broadcast events coincide can cause significant congestion, impacting on performance and the user experience.
Other, harder-to-predict scenarios also put bandwidth under pressure and these unforeseen events can lead to increased demand as people go online to stay informed, keep in touch, and access entertainment services.
